Dubai: 29 November, 2007 - China Shipping Container Line (CSCL), a unit of state-owned China Shipping (Group) Co., has shifted its Asia-Middle East-America service to DP World UAE region's new container terminal at the Jebel Ali port.

Xin Dalian, the first CSCL vessel docked at the terminal this week, making it the second shipping line to establish operations in the facility. In August, APL Dubai became the first vessel to berth at Terminal 2. The CSCL vessel will make four to five calls a month, and has a capacity of 5,668 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent container units).

Mohammed Al Muallem, Managing Director of DP World UAE region, said: "DP World is honoured to welcome the China Shipping Container Line to the new terminal at Jebel Ali. This is a milestone occasion for us as one of largest container shipping companies in the world makes the new terminal a part of its route network.

"The new terminal and future expansions will allow Dubai to continue its role as a strategic location for shipping and logistics without facing any capacity issues."

In order to improve efficiency at Jebel Ali, DP World launched a second terminal at the port earlier this year, adding three more berths and increasing the port's total handling capacity by two million TEUs, to reach 11 million TEUs. The expansion entailed a total investment of US$1.5 billion. The second phase of the terminal will be completed by the third quarter of 2008.

The new terminal features 18-rail mounted gantries and eight tandem lift gantry cranes, capable of simultaneously lifting either two 40 foot containers or four 20 foot containers.

Shanghai based CSCL, the eighth largest container shipping company in the world, provides storage, transshipment, customs clearance, and other related services.
