13 January 2004
Global Village 2004, the international attraction of the Dubai Shopping Festival, will this year feature an exclusive charity booth donated by Dubai Festival City, hosts of the entertainment and cultural extravaganza.
During each week of Global Village, one of four selected leading Dubai charities will occupy the booth, situated in one of the most prominent areas of Global Village.
“Al Noor School, the Red Crescent Society, Dubai Centre for Special Needs and Medecins Sans Frontiers will each occupy the booth for one week during Global Village, hoping to raise awareness among the millions of local and international visitors to the site,” said Alan Gordon, General Manager, Special Projects, Dubai Festival City, the hosts of Global Village 2004.
MSF will be the first charity to occupy the booth at Global Village, followed by Dubai Centre for Special Needs who will take over on 23rd January. On the 31st January Al Noor will move in, leaving Red Crescent Society to take over for the last week of the event from 8th to 15th February.
“These charities play an important role in our community“, said Gordon. “By offering them this chance to participate at Global Village, we hope to help them inform the general public of all the important work they do”.
Each charity will have information on its organisation at the kiosk and there will also be a donation box on display throughout the month. The organisers have placed the charity booth in a prime location close to the pavilions of India and Palestine, two of the most popular at Global Village.
“Global Village wants to help our four charity partners raise as much awareness of their work as possible, which is why we have strategically positioned them in a place that traditionally sees large numbers of people,” said Gordon.
The Global Village has grown to become one of the largest free entry events in the world, with the 2003 edition seeing over 3 million visitors.
This year’s event will have more international pavilions than ever before with 38 in total, with Italy, Germany, South Africa, Bahrain, Bulgaria, Brazil, Malaysia, Russia and Ukraine all participating for the first time.
