Beirut, 3rd November 2011 - Tomorrow CFA Lebanon, the national chapter for CFA Institute, the global association for the investment profession, will launch the first annual National Investment Research Challenge. The competition promotes best practice in research among the next generation of financial analysts and provides students with an insight into the investment industry in Lebanon.
A background presentation will be hosted at the society's office, Dr. Assem Safieddine CFA, President of CFA Lebanon, called for all universities and business schools in the country to take part. Four universities have already confirmed their involvement in the competition, comprising a total of 20 students split into 4 teams. This includes American University of Beirut, American University of Science and Technology, Lebanese American University, and Universite Saint Joseph.
The Global Investment Research Challenge is an educational initiative in which leading industry professionals guide teams of up to six business and finance students from different universities and colleges in researching and reporting on a publicly traded company. The teams then compete with each other to secure the national title. The winners of the national final, which will be held on the 15th of February, will be invited to represent Lebanon at the EMEA regional final which will be hosted in London-UK. The successful team from the region will then compete in the international final to be held in New York - USA.
The competition consists of analyzing a public company, mentoring by a professional research analyst, writing a research report and then presenting each team's results and recommendations to a high profile panel of experts at a national final. Marks are awarded to each team on the basis of their investment case, their delivery and their ability to answer and respond to detailed analysis from the judges.
Dr. Assem Safieddine, CFA, President of CFA Lebanon, said: "I encourage anyone who is interested in putting a team forward to contact us. This competition provides an exceptional opportunity for students in Lebanon to learn about the financial industry from the very best professionals who are actively working within the sector. The successful winner of the national competition will then have the fantastic opportunity to represent Lebanon at the regional final in London."
