A very special guest appearance by CEO Omantel Dr. Amer Alrawas was organized for the last session of the T6 current cohort, leaving participants as captivated as can be. The CEO shared with participants his impressive career journey, and the role fate played in shaping that for him.
The first of such fate-driven events he shared, started with his then tough yet highly respected Jordanian high school headmaster, who called him into his office. At that time being the naughty student he was, he was certain it was one of those calls for punishing one of the many naughty acts he'd committed. To his surprise and relief, it was nothing but an order by the headmaster for then student Amer to change his high school major from literature which he had applied for, to science, which the headmaster felt was more in line with his strength. Relieved by that being the only reason he was called in for, he indifferently accepted, realizing only later in life such having paved the road for him towards a destined career journey.
Just three years later a second fate-driven incident followed, which took place during his undergraduate studies in the UK, where he had applied and been accepted into a Business Systems major, but was later called in by his career advisor urging him to change his major to Software Engineering instead. Not certain then about his career advisor's intentions, he questioned this being a genuine advice or merely a matter of filling empty seats! Convinced after having been shown the equal number of student registrations in both majors, he was now destined to pursue Software Engineering!
These and other turning points in his career were all things he didn't decide, but fate took him by surprise on a career journey he felt was long drawn out and decided for him.
The rich experience Dr. Amer acquired in his CEO role at Omantel including his role of being chairman/member of various corporate boards and strategic government entities, had exposed him to many of the region's unique organizational challenges, through which he'd acquired some of the most valuable lessons learned that he was able to share and benefit others from, including today's T6 participants.
One of the enlightening wisdoms passed on to the T6 participants was that where he warned participants from focusing on the hanging rope and advised them to direct their focus and attention instead on the underlying table. The hanging rope depicting in this metaphor the leader's superiors, and the underlying table with its four legs depicting the leader's team of employees. Clarifying the metaphor's morale being "as long as you keep an eye on your table, and maintain it being strong and firm the hanging rope won't harm you. The minute your attention diverts to the hanging rope instead, your table will start becoming loose, and you run the risk of the table falling apart, and you being hang by the rope."
Dr. Amer including the facilitating team from the Altaaat Leadership Development Institute escorted by the group of T6 participants gathered in a post session celebration event that was held at Presidential Flight premises, and where they had warmly been welcomed by Presidential Flight's CEO and his team of Vice Presidents.
The Altaaat team including the T6 participants warmly thanked Dr. Amer for his generous visit and the invaluable wisdom and lessons he had shared with them. Dr. Amer extended his appreciations and admiration to the Altaaat team for the efforts exerted in the development of the region's nationals.
