MUSCAT: Caledonian College of Engineering (CCE), one of the premier private higher education institutions providing high quality technological education for the Sultanate, recently confirmed its participation as a Lead Sponsor for GHEDEX 2012. Organised by OITE Trade Fairs, the exhibition will take place from 23rd-25th April, 2012 at the Oman International Exhibition Centre.

Currently in its 13th year, GHEDEX 2012 gathers students and educational experts under one roof to form and strengthen academic links with local, regional and international higher education institutions. Coincidentally CCE has been participating in GHEDEX for the last 13 years.

"GHEDEX is renowned for being one of the better organised higher education exhibitions in Oman, in terms of quality and excellence. In our experience with it, GHEDEX has always exceeded expectations. It's importance to CCE is reflected through various aspects, which include It helps us in reaching out to target groups and increasing awareness about our programmes and also helps us with brand building and positioning, raising the college's visibility, understanding changes in the market place and obtaining feedback from various stakeholders" says Mr A Nizamuddin Ahmed, Deputy Dean & Register, CCE.

Commenting on the demand for skills in the market and the current skills gap he adds "Graduates these days are found lacking in communication skills in terms of articulation, presentation and problem solving. They have inadequate exposure to the work environment, vocational courses and training. They also lack expertise in areas related to energy, environmental science and management, urban planning and water management. CCE offers a variety of workshops and programmes designed to help graduates refine their capabilities and become effective members of the engineering sector and the community at large.

Graduates of the college enjoy high records of employability, a testimony to the quality of the college's programmes which fully conform to the Oman Qualifications Framework. In addition to being approved by the Ministry of Higher Education, all programmes meet international standards as prescribed by agencies such as the Quality Assurance Agency, UK and the All India Council for Technical Education.

In addition to the various core engineering programmes, CCE runs certified training courses and tailor-made staff development programmes through its Industry Relations and Corporate Training Division, to enhance the competency of working individuals.

Extracurricular activities run by Caledonian Student Support Service, include creative activities, charity functions and sports which play an important role in developing the student's personality. Various clubs and societies like CSSS and TOSCA are run by students for students and are guided by a staff member.
