Egypt, Cairo - In efforts to protect consumers’ rights and fight the actively growing counterfeit market for CASIO products in Egypt and the Middle East, CASIO is spreading awareness on the impact of counterfeit products, as they affect the health and safety of Egyptian consumers, as well as negatively impact the economy. CASIO increasing consumer awareness, will help consumers avoid counterfeit products, decrease the profit of counterfeit suppliers, and eliminate the market altogether.
Egypt is facing the growing problem of CASIO counterfeit products circulating in its markets. Counterfeit products are in lower prices and lower quality that harms the health and safety of Egyptian consumers. Every year, there are reports of Egyptians being seriously injured or even killed in connection with the use of counterfeit products. This, in turn, has led to the loss of consumers’ rights in using counterfeit products and the litigation against innocent manufacturers whose names, packaging or other distinguishing features that were used without authorization in the counterfeit product.
The counterfeit market in Egypt also affects industries for products like personal accessories and products like CASIO watches and calculators, as well as all other industries. CASIO counterfeit watches are at low quality in terms of internal construction machines and external construction of colour and band connectivity, they are easily breakable and wear off quickly. In addition, CASIO watches are water resistant; however, CASIO counterfeit watches lack this advantage.
Many multinational and local corporations suffer severe losses in Egypt due to counterfeit products, which result to limiting or suspending their investments in Egypt. Threatening their investments affects the performance of the Egyptian economy with billions of pounds in annual losses.
Managing Director of Middle East & Africa subsidiary, Mr. Koji Naka commented on this issue stating: “The sale of counterfeit products harms not only the business and the brand image, but also affects the rights of unwary consumers who end up purchasing the counterfeit products believing them to be genuine products of CASIO”.
Mr. Naka continued: “We take this matter very seriously and will continue fighting for the rights of consumers to purchase original products and the rights of brands to conduct business in a fair marketplace.”
CASIO continues to engage in driving awareness about counterfeit products in different markets and to ensure consumer knowledge around the world and especially in emerging markets like Egypt, to reduce the size of counterfeit markets and discourage retailers against purchasing counterfeit items from different suppliers.
