Innovative "Learn-by-Example" Administration Eases Rapid Replication of Policies and Best Practices across the Enterprise
Dubai , UAE, February 11, 2007 -CA today announced CA Host-Based Intrusion Prevention System (CA HIPS), a new solution that combines advanced firewall, intrusion detection and intrusion prevention capabilities to defend enterprise computing assets against today's blended threats.
By providing centrally managed proactive threat protection for PCs and servers, CA HIPS enables IT organizations to quickly and efficiently implement best-practices security policies for system endpoints across the enterprise.
CA HIPS monitors both incoming and outgoing traffic and enables centralized management of access control policies. It also simplifies the deployment and management of intrusion prevention on Windows systems across the enterprise.
"IT organizations in the region are already dealing with twice as many threats as they did even just a year ago and those threats are getting more complex and sophisticated all the time," said Abdul Karim Riyaz, Regional Director for CA's Storage and Protection Business Unit in the EMEA Eastern Market. "By providing another powerful yet easy-to-administer layer of defense to existing enterprise security architectures, CA HIPS is helping customers further minimize their exposure to IT-related risks without putting undue strain on their budgets."
"CA HIPS enables us to provide our customers with an additional layer of security that complements CA's anti-spyware and antivirus solutions which have already proven to be so effective for them," said Nehme Mouchantaf , SW & Solutions Unit Manager of Mindware, a distributor of CA's threat management products. "Its centralized management and self-learning capabilities make it easy to use and clearly set it far above other products in the market."
CA HIPS is available primarily through authorized CA resellers.
"Learn-by-Example" Administration
CA HIPS uniquely facilitates the definition and implementation of security policies by allowing administrators to create policies based on user behavior and existing examples. This "learn-by-example" approach eliminates much of the time and effort typically required for administrators to define policies for specific roles, applications and/or resources. Administrators can use this feature to set policies for users and groups defined within LDAP and Microsoft Active Directory, for types of systems (such as laptops, servers and devices), for specific security mechanisms (such as firewall, IDS and IPS), and for specific types of applications.
CA HIPS also makes it easy for administrators to define these policies with any desired level of granularity. For example, the use of USB storage devices can be limited to specific users, applications, and/or hours--depending on the particular business requirements of the organization.
Protects Against Zero-Day Attacks
CA HIPS provides proactive, host-based security to counter zero-day attacks by detecting anomalies in system behavior. Administrators can define rules for automatically responding to these anomalies--such as blocking suspicious application activity with the rest of the network until a potential threat can be evaluated fully.
Threat events are logged to assist with compliance, reporting and investigations. CA HIPS can also detect patterns in these events to help uncover whether a potential security issue exists or whether modifications must be made to existing security policies to allow the activity to continue. Graphical reports make it easy for administrators to collate, analyze, understand and present threat-related information.
CA HIPS works with CA's award-winning anti-spyware and antivirus products to provide customers with multiple layers of defense for maximum enterprise-class endpoint threat protection.
