First black-and-white office MFPs to use Canon's next generation imageRUNNER ADVANCE platform to provide improved efficiency, security, integration and lower environmental impact.

The new Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE 6000 series offers output speeds of 55, 65 and 75 pages per minute (ppm) with a host of security and document management enhancements

Integrates seamlessly into current IT and document workflows to create the ultimate 'digital office'

Dubai, UAE, 21 December 2010: Canon Middle East, world-leader in imaging solutions, today announced the launch of its new range of black-and-white multifunctional printers (MFPs) on its next generation imageRUNNER ADVANCE platform. The six new devices are designed for office environments in organisations of all sizes from SMEs to large corporates.

The Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE platform is designed to improve workplace efficiency through workflow automation and seamless integration with common office IT systems. The first black-and-white office printers with the imageRUNNER ADVANCE platform (Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE 6000 series) integrate seamlessly with Canon's core software solutions, such as uniFLOW Output Manager (OM) as well as third party solutions, to automate document workflows, and streamline labour-intensive and document-heavy processes. The devices are ideally suited to a wide range of sectors including public sector, education, legal, sales administration and finance.

Moayad El Saadany, Product Manager, Canon Middle East says, "The Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE colour devices that were launched last year have been well received across a broad range of sectors. We have launched the black-and-white models with the same imageRUNNER ADVANCE platform to complement the colour models and help drive efficiency savings in document-heavy environments."

The imageRUNNER ADVANCE devices, which will replace the successful Canon iR50 series, offer hundreds of enhancements from the previous iR platform, including a new advanced controller delivering faster management of multiple jobs. The improved high-quality colour TFT touch screen user interface can be easily personalised with one-touch workflows, to speed-up access to relevant functions, increasing users' productivity. In addition, the new models offer improved serviceability and reliability with the improved design architecture reducing running costs and maximising up-time.

The new Single Pass Duplex colour scanner enables users to scan paper documents quickly at up to 200 images per minute (ipm) to multiple destinations including back-office systems streamlining paper-intensive processes. The new imageRUNNER ADVANCE black-and-white devices work seamlessly with Adobe technologies, including Adobe® PDF, Adobe® PDF/A-1b and Reader Extensions PDF, which allow users to mark-up, apply notes and insert annotations, making it quick and easy to work on collaborative documents. The Adobe® PDF/A-1b file format enables users to save documents for long-term archival.

Saadany continues, "Canon understands the need for black-and-white printing in organisations that are looking for a cost-effective way to print and manage large volumes of internal documents. The new black-and-white devices developed on the imageRUNNER ADVANCE platform meet that need. Through our partnerships with Microsoft, NT-Ware and Adobe we have been able to develop a solution that will improve productivity and efficiency for our customers. The imageRUNNER ADVANCE models are truly multi-role devices designed to integrate seamlessly with existing systems and enhance our customers' document management experience to create a truly digital office."

The new models offer advanced security features, such as Document Scan Lock Kit, which prevents un-authorised scanning and copying of sensitive documents, and integration with Adobe LiveCycle Rights Management Server ES to control access to collaborative documents. Users can print securely from any device on the network with My Print Anywhere through Canon's uniFLOW software. Additionally, security features such as data encryption, secure data erase capabilities, as well as the ability to remove hard disk drives, provide an extra degree of security for organisations handling sensitive data.

The ENERGY STAR certified imageRUNNER ADVANCE devices offer excellent energy efficiency with one of the lowest Total Energy Consumption (TEC*) ratings in their

class. The new models consume over fifty* percent less energy than previous models, using as little as 1.5 watts in sleep mode.

The new series has been assessed through Canon's Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) product design system to minimise carbon emissions throughout its entire life; from manufacture and delivery to energy consumption during use. Incorporating green technologies such as recycled plastics and bio plastics, the new series is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 10 per cent over previous models. Canon's stringent Green Procurement policy ensures the new devices fully comply with the EU RoHS Directive.

The new black-and-white range includes six models, the imageRUNNER ADVANCE 6055, 6055i, 6065, 6065i, 6075 and 6075i series, running at 55ppm, 65ppm and 75ppm respectively.

* As defined by ENERGY STAR® ** Power consumption in sleep mode on the Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE 6075i has been reduced to 1.5 vs. 3.5 watts for the Canon iR5075
