CALGARY - BP Canada Energy Company (BP) and Schlumberger Information Solutions (SIS) announced today at the Global Petroleum Show being held in Calgary June 11-13 that they have entered into a five-year Exploration and Production (E&P) Information Management Agreement. The agreement provides for the outsourcing to SIS of all E&P information management for BP's Canadian Gas Business Unit.

Dr. Tom Koleszar, Growth Team Leader for Subsurface Technology with BP Canada, expects many benefits to result from the outsourcing of information management services, including long term cost effectiveness and the ability to maintain and improve capabilities in data access, exchange, and global sharing.

"BP recognizes the importance of information management. This agreement allows us to align ourselves with a group that has core competence in this area, and to focus on our core exploration and development business," Dr. Koleszar said. "Access to technical data, and its interpretation and integration to support business decisions, is a key lever on productivity in the upstream oil and gas industry. BP values innovation, and this agreement with SIS enhances our ability to be innovative and competitive in all price environments."

SIS will develop and maintain a master data store of BP technical and commercial data, and provide the support services needed to deliver a high-quality, cost-effective data management solution to BP. Highly skilled SIS personnel applying best practices in BP's Calgary office will manage service requests from end users; accept, retrieve and distribute information; maintain information stores and archives; and integrate information for projects.

"Partnering with BP allows Schlumberger to showcase its expertise in data management to the Canadian marketplace by demonstrating the ability of Calgary's Data Management Centre to deliver world-class E&P data management solutions that enable more efficient drilling and more profitable operations," said Orestes Appel, Canadian operations manager for SIS. "This initiative validates the commitment of Schlumberger to make significant investments in oilfield information technology, people and processes that can empower significant improvements in business performance."
