Simon Tabron qualifies first to finals of BMX Vert; Tomas Vintr tops list of finalists in Skateboard Street

Dubai, UAE - History was made on Thursday as the Middle East became the latest region to host an international X Games competition. On the opening day of the three-day ESPN X Games Dubai, presented by Mountain Dew, local fans were treated to a thrilling elimination round action in BMX Vert and Skateboard Street. The enthusiastic spectators watched regional and international athletes compete on the half pipe and street venues at Dubai Festival City. Athletes who qualified for the finals of Skateboard Street included X Games medallist, Rune Glifberg, and local skater, Evan Collisson.

Rick Alessandri, Senior Vice President, ESPN Consumer Products and X Games Managing Director, said: "We're extremely pleased with the world-class performances of these athletes on the first day of competition. It's been great to see up-and-coming regional athletes compete side-by-side against international stars. It's a great way for them to learn tips and tricks from the world's best."

BMX Vert athlete, Simon Tabron, said "It's great to be back in Dubai for the third year in a row. Now that I'm a part-time resident here, I'm particularly pleased to have qualified in first place for the BMX Vert and I've given myself a good position to win the Gold Medal in the finals tomorrow."

BMX Freestyle, Skateboard and Moto X action is set for today [Friday].

Together with presenting sponsor PepsiCo's Mountain Dew brand, the event also is supported by official car partner Dodge, Dubai Festival City and Playstation.
