Beirut, Wednesday June 20th, 2012

The Beirut Traders Association organized a conference in collaboration with Banque Libano-Française, on Wednesday, June 20th 2012, discussing "Foreign Exchange Hedging", at the Chamber of Commerce building and in the presence of businessmen, managers at the Bank and media representatives.

Mr. Nicolas Chammas, president of the BTA, inaugurated the conference by stressing on the subject's importance and its effects on the trading business in particular, considering the significant volume of the annual imports to Lebanon and the obligations of paying those imports in foreign currencies.

The main speaker, Mr. Chadi Berberi, Corporate Sales, Treasury & Capital Markets at BLF, discussed foreign exchange hedging, highlighting that "increased uncertainties and market volatility compel institutions to make decisions about covering their future expenditures and foreign exchange exposures. Failure in taking such decisions may leave a firm with a large, inadvertently acquired, unmanaged risk."

Finally, Mr. Berberi presented both traditional and sophisticated strategies that may be used to manage these foreign exchange risks.
