Mr. Khamis Al Muqla, founder and Chairman of Gulf Marcom Group and founder and Chairman of Gulf Hill and Knowlton M.E. was recently presented with an award by the International Public Relations Association, Gulf Chapter, for his pioneering efforts and outstanding achievements in the public relations industry in the region. 

The recognition took place during the inaugural ceremony of the World Conference of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), which was held for the first time in the Kingdom of Bahrain during the period from 20th to 22nd March, 2007 under the patronage of Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister and attended by many prominent Arab and international figures in the public relations and international affairs sectors.    More than 500 delegates took part in this event. 

Mr. Al Muqla began his career in 1974 when he established Gulf Public Relations Group, now Gulf Marcom Group, in partnership with Mr. Hasan Jawad Al Jishi, former Speaker of Bahrain's National Assembly and Mr. Abdul Nabi Al Shoala, former Minister of Labour and Social Affairs and former Minister of State in the Kingdom of Bahrain.  The Group's activities covered Bahrain and other Gulf countries and included advertising, public relations, translation, publishing and such other related business activities.  In 1985 the Group launched the Bahrain-based Gulf Hill and Knowlton, which was the first specialized public relations network in the Middle East as a joint venture with a major international public relations network.  He is now the Chairman of this Company.   

Throughout his career, Al Muqla participated in numerous professional associations such as the London-based International Public Relations Association (IPRA) and IPRA Gulf Chapter which he participated in its establishment. He is also member of its Board of Directors representing the Kingdom of Bahrain. In addition, he is a member of the New York-based International Advertising Association (IAA) and is also Chairman of its Bahrain Chapter. In addition, he is a founder and member of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Businessmen's Association. He also served as Board Member of the Bahrain Radio and TV Corporation, at the Ministry of Information and is a member of the Public Relations Committee of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry. 

Taking part in the honouring ceremony held on Tuesday March 20 were HE Mr. Jawad Salem Al Arayyed, representative of the event's patron HH Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister and in the presence of the Minister of Information, Minister of Education, Minister of Labour, Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture, HM the King's Advisor for Media Affairs, Conference official spokesman Prince Turki Al Faisal, Board Chairman of King Faisal Research and Studies Centre, Mr. Hasan Al Hasan of Saudi Aramco and Chairman of IPRA Gulf Chapter, Mr. Sultan Al Bazie'e, a Saudi media personality and IPRA Gulf Chapter, senior officials, diplomats and businessmen.
