Museum-calibre event to end in two days

Dubai: 17 May, 2007 - With only two days left before the Rosy Blue Masters ends for another year, visitors to the museum-calibre event have been getting a taste of art history with the newly installed audio guide system.

Visitors to the Rosy Blue Masters art exhibition at the One & Only Royal Mirage can avail the service in both English and Arabic, with interesting commentary provided on the art works on display, particularly in the European Masters selection. The system has been provided by Orpheo, a renowned leader in the field of museum technology.

Rosy Blue Masters 2007 also exhibits contemporary artworks by prominent UAE artists, including Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, president of the Dubai Women's Establishment, and wife of His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister for Presidential Affairs. Other artists include those from the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, Taiwan, Korea and Latin America, such as Shirin Neshat, Shazia Sikander, YZ Kami, Kim Sooja and Arman.

Marc Latamie, Project Artistic Director, The Rosy Blue Masters 2007, said: "This is the first time such technology has been introduced in a Dubai exhibition. Audio guides add a new dimension to the experience of those visiting the event. They are not only a good companion, but are also beneficial to visitors who don't want to be part of a large guided group."

An audio guide provides a recorded spoken commentary, normally through a handheld device, to a visitor attraction such as an exhibition or museum collection. Typically, the user selects a short piece of spoken information by typing in a number that may be displayed by an artwork or some other museum object.

Audio guides were first introduced in museums in the 1970s and since then have been an important component of the museum experience, especially for solo visitors.

The Rosy Blue Masters 2007 introduced the audio guide system this year as a way to enhance the experience of the event and to educate visitors on the history and meaning of the different styles. From learning about Gaugin's artistic explorations to the effect of light in Shirin Neshat's photography, the audio guides help visitors understand and appreciate the pieces on display.

The Rosy Blue Masters organised by Marketing Pivot, brings to Dubai a selection of 19th and 20th century artworks from Impressionist and Modern period.

The event is open to the public from 10am to 8pm daily with an entry fee; and private sale and viewing hours from 8pm to 10pm. Sharp objects, markers, perfume spray and liquids will not be permitted inside the salons.

Admission fees are AED 75 for adults and AED 50 for children under 12.
