Omnix International, a leading regional technology service provider and integrator in the Middle East, has announced the successful implementation of essential Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology for leading contracting company, Amana Contracting & Steel Buildings. Implemented over a two-month period, the installation covered strategic BIM software like Revit Architecture, Revit MEP, Revit Structure Solutions and Navisworks, which is expected to help strengthen Amana's operations and fast track development in UAE projects where sustainable construction is involved and Estidama (Pearl Rating) guidelines are observed. As part of the agreement, Omnix has also facilitated the training of Amana personnel allowing for an easier transition from the company's previously used AutoCAD software to the newer Autodesk BIM software.
According to Amana, the use of AutoCAD software for drawing work and other design processes proved inadequate against challenges that included the need to fast track schedules, security concerns and the large number of personnel involved per project. To help address these concerns, Omnix International presented Amana with a revolutionary Autodesk BIM software package that allowed the company to access accurate and current project information for quick approval of key decisions.

"To date, we have seen an improvement in our productivity as we have saved four to six weeks off from our drawing production and have also allowed our Quantity Surveying department to finalize quantities faster and with more accuracy. The Revit BIM platform, which includes software like Revit Architecture, Revit MEP, Revit Structure and Navisworks, automatically creates essential project information, accurate floor plans, elevations, sections, quantity takeoffs, area calculations and schedules. The software allows architects, structural engineers and builders to work from a single integrated digital model that contains all information essential to the project. Amana's decision to utilize key BIM software has allowed their architects to link a project's structural model into the architectural model and directly see the structural components on the drawings - resulting in a tighter integration between structure and architecture departments. The use of BIM technology has allowed Amana to make better informed decisions and also create stronger ties with their clients.
