Beirut, November 25, 2008: Alfa, the mobile operator, announces that it has won the Best Corporate Social Responsibility Project Award.
The prize was awarded in the light of the First Mena ICT Forum and Arab Golden Chip Awards organized by the Arab ICT Organization - IJMA3, in cooperation with the Lebanese Ministry of Telecoms, the Professional Computer Association - PCA and the Information Technology Association of America - ITAA, under the High patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Lebanon General Michel Sleiman.
The award was handed over to Ms. Aline Karam, Head of Alfa's Communication department, and the responsible of Alfa's Corporate Responsibility Program 4life which is intended to support the "children in communication need" so they can enjoy life in a dignified and self-reliant manner enabling them to be an active participant in the community.
Alfa, through its management company Fal Dete Telecommunications, has constantly implemented therapeutic programs through music, theatre and sports activities enabling these children to develop their communication skills. These programs include the yearly Drawing Contest for the Deaf and Mute children, a Christmas Carol Choir for SOS children, a Theatre play for Sesobel's children and a Sports day for Acsauvel's children.
During the event's week or following it, Alfa launches a SMS campaign kindly asking its subscribers to contribute for these causes via SMS and calls to short code 1004. Alfa charges its customers the normal tariff for a call or SMS to 1004, but an overcharge of $1 is donated to the charities.
It is heartwarming to see that the sum of money collected after each campaign is constantly increasing, thus supporting the charity associations who carry such important humanitarian responsibilities.
