Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba)'s determination to ensure its employees remain at the cutting edge of skills needed for the industry was the prime motivator behind a three-day training programme on 'repair and manufacture of advanced gas turbine components' organised for staff of the Power Maintenance Mechanical Department from December 20 - 22, 2010 at the Alba plant.

The training programme, which was part of the ongoing departmental knowledge development plan, was conducted by Netherlands based Sulzer Elbar D.V., in coordination with the Alba Training Section.

The lectures were conducted by Sulzer's Technical Director, Sjef Mattheij and Product Manager, Mark Hendricks.

The programme covered subjects like basic metallurgy of super alloys, failure mechanism of turbine components, inspection techniques, repair techniques, various types of coatings as well as manufacturing techniques of new components. It was attended by 20 department employees who benefited from the combination of lectures, demonstrations and interactive discussions with the experts from Sulzer.

Commenting on the success of the three-day training programme conducted by Sulzer Elbar D.V., for the Power Maintenance Mechanical Department, Alba's Chief Executive, Laurent Schmitt said:

"Alba remains keen on strengthening operational efficiency at the plant and enhancing global competitiveness, and regards employee training and development to be one of the effective ways of achieving this goal. The three-day training programme conducted by Sulzer Elbar D.V., provided a welcome opportunity for our employees to update their skills as well as acquire detailed understanding of the advanced systems and components being used at the plant to ensure safe working practices and operation.
