Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Dubai Municipality is currently undertaking a Dhs107 million project to provide comprehensive drainage and storm-water network for Al Warqa 1, said Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality.
He noted that the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of next year, forms part of the civic body's plans to link new residential areas with the city's main drainage net-work and reduce the percentage of sewage water transported by heavy tankers to just five per cent by 2011.
"This project will serve Al Warqa 1 area and it forms part of a series of similar projects undertaken by the Drainage and Sewage Department at the municipality during this year. The project will incorporate all advanced design concepts and technology," explained Mr Lootah.
Al Warqa 1 is bordered by Al Awir Road on the South, Nad Al Hamr on the West, Al Warqa 2 on the East and Al Warqa 3 on the North. The total area to be covered by the project is 250 hectors and will connect more than 430 buildings to the drainage and storm-water network.
The project has been awarded to a private firm of high reputation in the field of infrastructure development and it will be carried out under the supervision of a prominent consultant.
The Drainage and Irrigation Department at Dubai Municipality has urged residents of the area to present any suggestions or remarks in this regard via the Municipality homepage www.dm.gov.ae (Have Your Say) or by calling toll-free 800 900 or by Fax: 04-2214835.
