Strengthens its position as a leading leisure and tourist destination

Sharjah, 29 July 2013

Al Majaz Waterfront, one of the leading leisure and tourist destinations in Sharjah, has welcomed a record breaking 1.2 million people during the first half of this year, a marked increase compared to visitor numbers between January and June last year.

According to Al Majaz Waterfront management, visitors of various nationalities and ages from within the emirates and abroad flocked to the state-of-the-art complex during this time to enjoy its many world-class leisure, entertainment and culinary experiences and attractions, which include the Sharjah Fountain, Mini Golf, Play Area, the Splash Park Area and Maraya Art Park.

Speaking of the popularity of Al Majaz Waterfront, Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) COO Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer said: "Shurooq's aim is to develop Sharjah as a premier tourist destination, and as such the Authority seeks to continuously boost and support the growth of its various projects by maintaining the highest standards and developing exceptional facilities. We are delighted that Al Majaz Waterfront, our debut project, is witnessing such impressive visitor numbers and we are extremely proud of its contribution to Sharjah's tourism sector."

Al Majaz Waterfront Manager Mohammed Fadhil Al Mazroui, also commented on the increased footfall reported, saying: "Not only does the footfall recorded elevate Al Majaz Waterfront's position as one of Sharjah's most visited leisure and tourist destinations, but the increased visitor numbers are also a strong testament to the growing appeal of the entire emirate as a tourism destination."

Al Mazroui attributed the overwhelming turnout to date to a number of crucial factors, saying: "Al Majaz Waterfront's strategic location in the city, its beautiful natural surroundings, its welcoming family atmosphere, and the quality and diversity of amenities and services offered are all factors that contribute to the destination's growing success."

He further credited the dynamic movement and increase in the number of visitors to the tireless efforts exerted in planning, promoting and continually developing the services and experiences provided to visitors. He said: "Al Majaz Waterfront is home to a number of spectacular events and annual celebrations, all of which are conceptualised, planned, and made possible by our fantastic team. These events and celebrations are a major drawing card for tourists and residents alike, and have been key in engaging with and increasing visitor numbers."

The Dhs120m Al Majaz Waterfront was opened 26 March 2012, and is situated in Sharjah's most vital and commercial district on the picturesque Khalid Lagoon. As one of the premier tourist and leisure destinations in Sharjah, it plays host to all major events in the emirate.

Al Majaz Waterfront also houses many world-class restaurants and cafes, including: T.G.I Friday's, Caribou Coffee, Fat Burger, Pizzaro, Baja Fresh, Zahr El Laymoun, Tim Hortons café, Cold Stone, ElManza, a fine dining Moroccan restaurant and the soon to be opened Shakespeare and Co, all of which overlook the breath-taking Sharjah Fountain.
