Sharjah, 6 February 2013: Al Majaz Waterfront, the latest leisure and tourist destination in Sharjah and the debut project of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), has reported an overwhelming turnout of more than 2 million visitors of various nationalities and all ages from within the Emirates and abroad.

The huge footfall of visitors included people who visited Al Majaz Waterfront's many world-class restaurants, cafes, and sport facilities such as the play areas, Splash Park, Mini Golf, ALWAN, and other picnic areas, walking and the jogging track, and the Sharjah Fountain all highly favoured by families and especially children.

Commenting on the huge number of visitors reported by Al Majaz Waterfront, Mohammed Fadhel Al Mazroui, Destination Manager of Al Majaz Waterfront, said, "This huge figure, which exceeded two million visitors, is concrete evidence of the immense efforts expended by Shurooq. It is an achievement that doubles our responsibility to maintain this success by intensifying our efforts in an image that reflects the reputation of Sharjah and its internationally recognised position on the tourism map of the region and world."

He pointed out that Al Majaz Waterfront will be attracting even higher numbers of visitors during 2013 in light of the numerous upcoming events and activities set to be organised throughout the year, thus making Al Majaz Waterfront a leisure and tourist destination of choice.

He added, "The quality and diversity of amenities and services at Al Majaz Waterfront are the primary reason for this major success and overwhelming public turnout, not to mention the diverse package of exciting and fun-filled activities that were hosted at Al Majaz Waterfront throughout the past year - a fact that has played a significant role in increasing the number of visitors remarkably."

Al Majaz Waterfront hosted a rich and diverse range of exciting events, such as Ramadan and Eid promotions, most notably the exclusive show of little star Hala Al Turk, FREEJ Village and its accompanying shows and workshops, ALWAN, the monthly Flea Market held on the first Friday of every month, and the Earth Harp performance by American musician William Close, among many other events.

Earlier last year, the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) announced that the number of visitors to Al Majaz Waterfront surpassed one million during the first half of 2012.

The number of visitors totalled 1,151,433 by end of June 2012, which included visitors to the different attractions of Al Majaz Waterfront such as the restaurants, cafes, play areas, sport facilities, and picnic areas, among others.

Opened in December 2011, Al Majaz Waterfront spreads across an area of 231,000 square metres. It underwent a comprehensive makeover to become one of the premier tourist and leisure destinations in Sharjah and won the Sharjah Tourism Excellence Award for 2012 as the best tourist destination in the Emirate. Al Majaz Waterfront houses leisure and recreational amenities that include world-class restaurants and cafes, as well as the Sharjah Fountain, the waterfront's flagship and landmark attraction. The project forms part of Shurooq's commitment to launching landmark projects that combine tradition and modernity in a creative manner.
