DUBAI - Al Islami Foods, a pioneer in the halal food industry, has been awarded an SGS Cerfification for Best Food Safety and Hygience Practices recognizing the company's superior quality standards, best practices and procedures established at Al Islami Cart project, a food franchise model.

In securing the tough quality and standards certification, Al Islami has raised the bar for food industry in the UAE, which has been beset of late by reports of expired and contaminated stocks filtering through to the consumer market. Although rare, such instances have nevertheless raised alarm signals over public health and safety.

SGS, the Geneva-based inspection, verification, testing and certification company, is recognized as the global benchmark for quality and integrity.  As the leader in providing specialized business solutions that improve quality, safety and productivity and reduce risk, SGS helps protect consumer welfare in an increasingly regulated world.

Saleh Abdullah Lootah, Chief Executive Officer at Al Islami Foods commented: "The achievement of SGS Hygiene Safety Certification is a testament to our commitment towards establishing best practices and international food safety standards to provide our consumers with highly nutritious and healthy products."

"To eliminate the risk of food contamination, it is vital that the public is protected from unsafe food handling practices. Whether you are a food processor, restaurant, hotel or a catering company, the food safety compliance regulation requires that adequate food hygiene standards are maintained, staff are adequately trained, managers know how to implement a hygiene monitoring system, among other critical safety and quality issues," said Dr. S.A. Mansoor, Manager, Consumer Testing Services, Arabian Paninsula, SGS Gulf Ltd.

At Al Islami Foods, quality systems and practices are constantly evaluated and enhanced and integral to the company's operations. Since pioneering halal best practices, the company has then taken initiatives that further bolstered its commitment to delivering quality halal foods that consumers love and trust.

About Al Islami Foods:
Established as CO-OP ISLAMI in 1981 to cater to the growing demand for halal food in the Arab world, AL ISLAMI FOODS was formed as a result of the long relentless efforts commenced in the early seventies when Hajj Saeed Bin Ahmad Lootah instituted Dubai Co-operative Society.

Starting with its successful frozen chicken product line, AL ISLAMI FOODS further expanded its operations to include processed meat.

In 1991, Dubai Co-operative Society's efforts were culminated by establishing its "CO-OP ISLAMI" meat processing plant in Jebel Ali Free Zone. This plant is considered a recognizable breakthrough as it became the real producer of a variety of food products under the name "CO-OP ISLAMI.

In 2006, CO-OP ISLAMI was re-launched as AL ISLAMI FOODS in an effort to propel the company to new heights of success. Now, Al Islami Foods products are considered as a quality benchmark trusted by consumers across the UAE and the GCC, and this has made it one of the best and most preferred brands in the region.  www.alislamifoods.com
