Amman, Jordan: In response to the numerous obstacles posed by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, talabat Jordan, the largest online food delivery platform in the Middle East, proudly stepped up to support local communities in myriad ways throughout the year, adapting its operations in order to meet the needs of individuals and families across the Kingdom. The company shared its latest achievements, lessons, and future plans with local media representatives during a virtual roundtable event.
Recognizing the increasingly vital importance of delivery services in a year of worldwide lockdowns and social distancing, talabat Jordan shifted its business model from that of a profit-led business to one of a purpose-led company, and began working tirelessly to provide and deliver essential goods and services to people throughout the country. This new purpose-driven focus also led the company to expand its geographic reach and create more jobs: last year, while many businesses and industries were forced to conduct layoffs and pay cuts, talabat’s in-office workforce grew by an impressive 57 percent, while its number of drivers across Jordan more than doubled. With talabat Jordan now operating in Amman, Irbid, Zarqa, and Aqaba, the application’s users in the Kingdom increased by 42 percent in 2020, as more and more customers came to rely on the company for essential goods and services.
Reflecting back on the previous year, Hala Siraj, the Managing Director of talabat Jordan, said, “From the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, we at talabat recognized that we had a responsibility to serve and support local communities however we could. By expanding our services and capabilities in ways that address core needs and increase job opportunities, we have proudly been able to help alleviate some of the socioeconomic burdens caused by the pandemic. This operational shift represents more than a strategic business decision: it reflects a complete transformation of our business model, toward one that puts purpose and social good at the forefront of everything we do.”
Siraj continued: “Moving forward, we plan to continue leveraging our expansive market knowledge, superior best practices, global insights, and advanced resources and technologies in order to further elevate and enhance Jordan’s delivery and ecommerce landscape, which will continue to become increasingly vital to daily life and the national economy in the years to come.”
In order to further elevate its user experience, talabat Jordan has implemented a wealth of new features and services on the talabat app, such as contactless delivery and a wider selection of payment options (including cash, talabat credit, and most major debit and credit cards). Furthermore, to add even greater value to its customer experience, the company has launched a number of ongoing promotional campaigns, rewards, and discounts - all designed to ease the financial burden on customers while simultaneously supporting local restaurants and other businesses.
In 2020, talabat Jordan also ramped up its corporate social responsibility efforts, through several new and ongoing initiatives. Most notably, the company made a considerable donation to the Himmat Watan Fund, in addition to launching a feature on the app that allows customers to quickly and easily make donations of their own. talabat also provided valuable internships and training programs to local university students, partnered with Tkiyet Um Ali to distribute food parcels to those in need during the month of Ramadan, and supported the government’s community health efforts by distributing nearly 19,000 medical packages free of charge.
In addition to ensuring the wellbeing of customers and consumers throughout the country, talabat Jordan continues to prioritize the wellbeing of its entire team, from employees across its various offices to its fleet of drivers nationwide. Last year alone, the company instituted several new benefit programs, all designed to better guarantee the health, safety, and wellbeing of employees. These included the adoption of a remote work policy, more flexible working hours, and even free counseling and psychological support services.
In 2021, talabat Jordan plans to build upon the ambitious efforts of the previous year, by further broadening its activities and services, creating more direct and indirect job opportunities, and engaging in a greater number of corporate social responsibility initiatives. The company is also in the process of adding even more restaurants and businesses to its network of partners nationwide.
