Dubai's Aerogulf Helicopter Services announced a new aerial advertising service today in a most spectacular fashion - flying a huge UAE flag over the city, and around the Dubai Airshow.

One of the largest UAE flags ever flown, it measures 20m high and 50m long, a massive 1,000sqm that was visible for miles.

Aerogulf have entered into partnership with Skybanners International, owned by Mr. Brian Walker, who invented and developed the concept of gigantic helicopter banners for commercial advertising and promotion, in 1992, in his home country of New Zealand. Over the last 15 years, his business Skybanners has become a leader in the world of aerial advertising, flying in numerous countries around the world, and conducting aerial banner displays that attract the attention of huge numbers of people every time they take flight.

Captain Robert Denehy of Aerogulf, said todays launch followed over a year of planning,  which concluded this week with final demonstration flights for the GCAA, who approved Aerogulf and Skybanners after extensive reviews of the flight operation methods and safety systems.

Mr. Walker says that he is very proud to offer Skybanners service to UAE advertisers and event promoters, adding "Dubai likes to do things big, and so do we! It's exciting to fly over such a spectacular city".

He said that working with a leading helicopter company like Aerogulf was a pleasure; they have an unblemished safety record, as do Skybanners.

"Skybanners have over a decade of international experience. We've flown campaigns over major cities such as Tokyo, KL, New York. We fly Skybanners over some of the world's biggest sporting events, like F1's, and the America's Cup yachting - once we had three banners in the air together escorting a fleet of thousands of boats into harbour- that got the whole city talking! We fly banners at every All Blacks game in New Zealand, and know how to target events safely, and at the same time make the crowd look up in amazement. Skybanners can really add to the atmosphere".

Mr. Walker says Skybanners have undergone significant design changes over the years. "Our standard size  is now 1,500 square meters, 25 meters high and 60 meters long. Our super size banners are 2,000 square meters, which we tow with the big choppers!

We design Skybanners aerodynamically, so that they fly in the correct shape and are easy to read; it's all about getting the advertisers message across, with style! Skybanners soar through the sky at over 40 knots, and we instruct the pilots how to make a display out it, so that we attract attention. It's like aerial ballet in the sky".
