Dubai, UAE - In a clear demonstration of its commitment to the safety or workers across the region, 3M, the leading technology company that develops thousands of innovative solutions for dozens of diverse industries announced today the launch of the G3000 Solaris safety helmet, fitted with the patented Peltor unique 'Uvicator' feature, which shows when a helmet has been over-exposed to invisible UV-radiation, and therefore at a much-reduced level of durability.
The G3000 Solaris helmet has been designed in close collaboration with forestry, industrial and construction workers. It is intended for use in harsh environments such as the intense sunshine of the Gulf region, with tough demands for effective protection, excellent ventilation and a maximum field of vision.
The Uvicator is built into the Peltor G3000 Solaris helmet and is reminiscent of a clock face. When the helmet is new, the Uvicator is red. As UV-radiation takes its toll on the plastic, the red Uvicator gradually fades out. When the red has faded away completely, it is time to replace the helmet.
With the biggest injuries and fatalities to workers in the UAE caused by falling objects and falls from heights - from which durable safety helmets can provide a level of protection - compromised helmet performance might well increase the incidences of such injuries.
"While the damage caused by chemical splashes or physical damage are clearly easy to see on safety helmets, the damage caused by UV radiation leaves no discernable trace. When you consider the extreme summer heat of the region and the vast number of construction projects and therefore workers exposed to the sunshine; the reality is the damage that UV radiation causes to helmets is potentially putting thousands of lives at risk from reduced helmet performance," explained Walid Feghali, Country Business Leader, Safety, Security & Protection Services 3M Gulf.
"Thanks to the unique ability of the Uvicator to gradually fade out when exposed to UV light, the 3M Solaris G3000 presents a new solution for construction companies to ensure the safety of their workers. Helmet performance is no longer a matter of years and guesswork; it is a matter of the length of exposure to UV rays and a visible, trustworthy indication."
As per the previously issued G2000 helmet, the 3M Solaris G3000 helmet has been designed to offer workers optimized comfort and safety: including the new ratchet harness for individual fit and comfort and the 3-point chin strap for greater comfort and a safer fit. It also features a variety of integrated design features to make the helmet one of the most practical in the market, including optimized ventilation, a short peak to increase visibility and integrated eye wear.
