President, CEO and Vice Chairman of Royal Jordanian Airlines Samer Majali today inaugurated the first phase of the multi-million dinar investment program to upgrade the Royal Jordanian Cargo Terminal at Queen Alia International Airport. The first phase included several automated work stations to ease cargo handling and state-of-the-art forklifts able to move fully laden aircraft pallets with ease and safe both for the cargo and for the personnel.
Majali stressed that "the first phase clearly underscores the commitment Royal Jordanian has to develop the company's cargo business. We have made great strides on the passenger side, which was acknowledged through our recent joining of the oneworld alliance. Logistics, customers and the export industry expect world-class services from us, here in Jordan, and we are getting ready to deliver them".
New shelves and pallet storage facilities will be introduced before the end of 2007, improving the service environment in particular for import customers. Majali also mentioned that Royal Jordanian will seek to introduce best-in-class information technology solutions for the Cargo Terminal at QAIA and Royal Jordanian in general. A new platform will improve service standards and create the facilities for electronic business between the forwarding community, and secure interchange with customs authorities worldwide. Royal Jordanian is currently concluding the specifications of a new system, and will start the procurement process in the next few months.
Majali also decorated several staff members who served the company for ( 20, 25 and 35 years) in the newly refurbished offices of Royal Jordanian Cargo. He thanked Vice President Cargo Geoffrey Weston and Director Cargo Services Zaid Lambaz for their hard work that resulted in this groundbreaking achievement.
