A daily rise in the number of Covid-19 cases should not alarm the public but reflect an increase in the country’s testing capabilities, stressed a senior government minister.
Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Alzayani yesterday highlighted that Bahrain has not shut down its airport or imposed a full lockdown, as it has been prepared to fight the pandemic.
“People maybe concerned about more active cases and this is not something to be seen negatively, but it is positive in the fight as we now conduct about 8,000 tests daily,” he said during a webinar held yesterday.
“We are hunting positive cases by going to the community, workplaces, homes and even ministries.
“Every additional case is a success as we have isolated and stopped the spread cycle.”
He added that until yesterday, out of the total active cases only 130 patients showed symptoms, of which only 24 required medication.
“My message is don’t worry about what is going on, but be prepared, instead of worrying about what the future holds – be prepared for the worse,” said Mr Alzayani.
“Our true test as a nation is how to come out of this crisis, as everyone can be a hero and be successful in good times, but in tough times you show the real mettle.
“There is no shame in having the virus as anyone of us can get it at any minute.”
Bahrain has so far registered over 7,800 cases of the coronavirus including active cases, recoveries and 12 deaths.
