Muscat: People living around the Muscat International Airport witnessed an increased movement of emergency vehicles and ambulances from the airport as Oman Airports, in co-ordination with other institutions, carried out a maritime emergency exercise yesterday.

The simulated exercise involved rescue of a civilian aircraft which had fallen into the sea at Azaiba.

Oman Airports said that residents might have noticed larger movement of vehicles from the airport as well as from neighbouring streets during the exercise, which started from 9 am and ended at 6 pm.

Oman Airports issued a notification about the exercise, saying, “As part of its commitment to implement the highest standards of emergency response and under the supervision of the PACA and to implement the procedures followed at airports across the world, Oman Airports wants to note that, in cooperation with its strategic partners, it is undertaking a simulated maritime emergency exercise. For the fall of a civilian plane off Azaiba Beach - Airport.”

The Royal Oman Police said in a statement online: “ROP is currently participating in the maritime emergency exercise that is being carried out by Oman Airports.”
