According to a report published by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI), this number includes certain passport holders who received visas upon arrival, diplomats, passengers travelled from other GCC countries to Oman, residents of Oman who travelled back via Male, Doha and other transit points like Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and other routes.
"This could also be either staycation involving residents of Oman as outside arrivals have been still limited or restricted due to quarantine procedures. It could also be people, Omanis or expats, students who either visited the country on a visa upon arrival or travelled back to the country," said Sunil D'Souza, CEO or Travel Point group of companies.
The top five nationalities who visited the country include Indians, GCC nationals, Egyptians, Pakistanis, and Iranians.
While 42,468 Indians visited Oman in June, the Gulf nationals constituted 37,648 visitors, followed by Egyptians, which amounted to 7,216 visitors, 6,289 Pakistani visitors, and 6,045 Iranians visited the country.
"People would have travelled through transit routes with 14-day quarantine elsewhere. Like India-Maldives-Muscat; India-Serbia-Muscat; India-Qatar-Muscat and India-Armenia-Muscat paying huge package costs," adds Prem Colaco, country representative of Indigo.
According to travel experts, these visitors have gone through rigorous quarantine processes while travelling back here or at the transit points.
