DUBAI, 22nd June, 2017 (WAM) -- The Applied Sustainability and Renewable Energy Department and Human Resources Department in Dubai Municipality have organised the Pecha Kucha 20x20 Initiative for its third edition, entitled "Future and Innovation", to promote and spread a culture of innovation.
The initiative, which was held at the Municipality Employees' Club, is a brainstorming session in the field of creativity, derived from the Japanese style of knowledge exchange, which is applied throughout the world. Pecha Kucha is a presentation style in which 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each (6 minutes and 40 seconds in total). The format keeps presentations concise and fast-paced in a dynamic and unconventional atmosphere, and allows the introduction of a large number of innovators in a short time to put up different topics useful for the exchange of knowledge. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, said that the initiative adopted by the municipality comes within the framework of innovation that Dubai Municipality has been keen to identify. "This event was organised to achieve the goal set in line with the directives of the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for all government bodies," he added. He noted that the municipality has already entered the field of community creativity, which comes within the framework of its vision. "Several topics within the scope of the municipality's work were discussed, but it finally raises the concept of the municipality's interest in achieving a society with happiness for all citizens, residents and visitors to the emirate," said Lootah. He added that this is the first time that this global system is used by a government agency away from the stereotyping of the presentation in many departments and institutions. "This system presents an interesting display of topics to the viewers and allows more scientific focus in the presentation process even if the presented topic is literary or technical. It represents an accurate vision, which experts call brainstorming, but in fact depends entirely on NLP. So, it puts the viewer with all his sights on the presentation with great concentration and thus makes the most of the professional or artistic purpose of the presentation process in the modern Japanese style," addded Lootah.
He said the municipality will continue to organise this event in future by including lecturers from other departments, private sector companies, and specialists.
