Lieutenant Colonel Mohamed Alai Al Naqbi, Director of Sharjah Traffic and Patrols Department at Sharjah Police, said that there is no intention of cancelling the speed limit buffer along Sharjah's main or internal roads.

"Speed limits currently in place are reasonable," Al Naqbi said, as per Al Bayan report.

"Our intention is to intensify more patrols, awareness campaigns, and radar devices. This is in light of the speed limit being raised from 100 to 120kmph along Sharjah's Maliha Road in the central region.

"Three young men were killed in traffic accidents last week due to overspeeding and inattentiveness," he lamented.

"Therefore, we urge commuters to exercise caution and adhere to stipulated speed limits, wear their seatbelts, stay focused on the road and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles on the road. These are the main issues leading to excessive traffic accidents."

Al Naqbi added: "We urge residents to take advantage of the proximity of the extension for reduced traffic fine payments that ends on February 28.

"Pay off fines to avoid accumulating a greater financial burden."
