KUWAIT CITY: The implementation of the Ministry of Interior’s decision to ban delivery motorcycles on the main and ring roads, which was supposed to take effect Sunday, was postponed until Nov 7, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources.

Sources explained that the postponement decision was taken after reaching an agreement with the Federation of Restaurants and Delivery Companies to install the necessary devices in each motorcycle. Sources said the riders must be informed about the pathways allotted to them.

In case of violation, a text message or an automatic notifi- cation will be sent to the company and the General Traffic Department to take legal measures including the issuance of a citation.

Repeat offenders will be deported, sources added. According to the sources, the ministry instructed the delivery companies and restaurants to require drivers of delivery motorcycles to strictly adhere to the preventive regulations; such as wearing a helmet and putting a reflective sticker on the motorcycle box so that other motorists can see them at night.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is currently studying the idea of issuing new licenses under the name ‘Sea Grocery’ (Bahariya Grocery) to serve those frequenting the sea, particularly those riding boats; reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources.

Sources said the ministry took this step after receiving a number of citizens’ requests to establish groceries on boats.

Sources revealed these groceries will sell various types of food products, water, juices, ice cream, cigarettes and other products that the consumer needs.

If this principle is approved, the ministry will coordinate with the Kuwait Municipality and Environment Public Authority to lay down the regulations for this type of commercial activity.
