Egypt allocated a total of EGP 7.9 billion in the current fiscal year (FY) 2022/2023 budget to implement various projects in the Red Sea governorate, marking an 88% increase from the previous FY plan, according to a statement by the Planning Ministry on January 21st.

The investment will be directed to several sectors, including electricity, housing, local development, water resources and irrigation, and higher education and scientific research.

The statement indicated that the projects targeted under the plan in the field of electricity and renewable energy includes the establishment of a 250-megawatt wind farm in the Gulf of Suez and the establishment of a power plant using photovoltaic cell systems in Zafarana, among others.

The plan also includes the development of the national program for social housing in Hurghada, the establishment of an integrated sewage project for the city of Shalateen, in addition to, the construction of sewage stations and networks for the cities of Ras Ghareb, Safaga, and Hurghada.
