AMMAN — Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and First Deputy Minister of Defence, Gen. Valery Gerasimov, on Tuesday discussed the latest regional and international developments.

Discussions went over cooperation in joint military training and ways to strengthen bilateral relations to serve the interests of the "friendly" countries' armies, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During the meeting, held at the Russian Army headquarters, Huneiti stressed the "deep-rooted" Jordanian-Russian relations, which came as a result of the efforts exerted by His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF).

Huneiti also highlighted the importance of Russia's role in realising stability in Syria, especially in the southern regions of the country.

Gerasimov referred to the level of cooperation with the JAF and the exchange of military expertise through defence industries and various workshops and activities, which are periodically conducted between the armies.
