RIYADH, Apr 26, 2011 (AFP) - Yemen's government and opposition are expected to sign on Monday a landmark deal on transfering power and ending months of violence, an official at the Gulf Cooperation Council said.
"The delegations of the Yemeni government and the opposition will sign the agreement on Monday at a ceremony in Riyadh," the official said, asking not to be named.
The agreement brokered by the six-nation GCC provided for the departure of President Ali Abdullah Saleh, who has been in power since 1978, and ending three months of violent demonstrations that have killed more than 130 people.
Both the government and the opposition confirmed that their representatives will head for Riyadh on Wednesday.
