YANBU: The US is looking to create new opportunities for US-Saudi partnership, according to US Consul General in Jeddah Thomas Duffy.  The comments came during a visit to Yanbu Industrial College (YIC) on Saturday.

During the trip -- part of a US outreach program -- Duffy met with YIC's Managing Director Ahmed M. Dabroom.

Accompanied by members of  the Consulate General's economic, public affairs and regional security staff, he toured the college campus and visited the departments of chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electronics and instrumentation, and electrical power technology. He also attended presentations on the history of the college, its faculty members and students.

An affiliate of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, YIC was set up in 1989 to provide technically skilled Saudis to manage the Kingdom's growing economy. It now provides two-year specialization programs in technical and management subjects leading to an associate degree. It also provides specialized on-the-job-training for Saudi employees and adult education programs to serve the local community's development needs.

For Consul General Duffy the visit was an opportunity to strengthen US collaboration with Yanbu's civic, economic and education sectors.

He met with local officials, regional business leaders and entrepreneurs as well as cultural and educational institutions.

The delegation also visited the Yanbu Royal Commission, Yanbu Gov. Ibrahim Al-Sultan, the Yanbu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, King Fahad Industrial Port and the SAMREF refinery.
