Tunisian exports of fresh vegetables fell by 25% during the 2016-2017 season compared with the previous season (2015-2016), while their revenues increased by 13% to reach 75 MD against 66 MD last season.
This drop is explained by the drop in exports in the Libyan market due to security conditions in Libya, the Ministry of Agriculture said in a statement.
In addition to the Libyan market, Tunisia exports its fresh vegetables to 20 countries in the world. Europe holds 69% of these exports, compared to 14% for the African market, 13% for Russia and only 3% for the Gulf market.
According to the Department of Agriculture, a remarkable evolution of exports of fennel and onions was recorded this season. For onions, Tunisia exported 1851 tonnes this season compared to only 247 tonnes in the last season, while fennel exports increased by 10 tonnes in the 2015-2016 season by 336 tonnes this season.
