TransGlobe Plugs And Abandons Narmer-1 Exploration Well In Nuqra Block 1

Canada’s TransGlobe Energy on 11 May said it had plugged and abandoned the Narmer-1 exploration well in the onshore Nuqra Block 1 permit in Upper Egypt. The Narmer-1 well is the second of a two-well commitment targeting Cretaceous and Jurassic prospects in the Nuqra/Kom Ombo rift basin near Aswan. In March, TransGlobe plugged and abandoned the Set-1 well, the first drilled in the block (MEES, 26 March). The Calgary-based company said Narmer-1 was drilled to a depth of 2,701ms and said strong hydrocarbon shows were encountered in the Cretaceous sands from 380-840ms. However, the log analysis indicated the reservoir sands were water-bearing. No hydrocarbon shows were encountered in the Jurassic sands, it said, adding that the drilling rig had been released to the operator of the adjacent exploration block located west of the Nile River. The current exploration permit expires in July 2009.
