PARIS, Feb 10 (KUNA) -- Oil giant TOTAL affirmed on Friday it was delving into initial consultations with Kuwait over obtaining a possible share in a huge refinery project being built in Southern China.

"If we are able to undertake a share in a large refinery and petrochemical project in China, we would be very happy about it," said TOTAL director of refinery and petrochemical division Patrick Boian, at a press conference he held here today to announce annual company balance sheet results.

Kuwait Petroleum Corp. (KPC) CEO Farouq al-Zanki had last week announced that there was a fundamental agreement between TOTAL and KPC to enter into the Chinese refinery deal as co-partners.

KPC and the Chinese state-owned petrochemical firm, Sionchem, share equal stakes in the building of the refinery complex in question, which will have a capacity of 300,000 barrels of oil daily.

TOTAL Group is one of the largest oil companies in the world, topping in value all those listed on the French stock market board.
