BEIRUT: The Daily Star online was ranked the sixth most popular English-language website in the region in 2011, according to Forbes Middle East, ahead of well-established dailies like the UAE’s The National and Khaleej Times as well as the Saudi Gazette.
The Daily Star, making the Forbes list for the first time, was ranked 35 out of 63 Arab and English-language newspapers with the strongest presence.
The newspaper, which is the only English-language paper in Lebanon, revamped its online news portal in April of this year with an easy-to-use design and up-to-minute content regarding Lebanon, the Middle East and international news.
The UAE’s Gulf news was ranked first as the most popular English-language website followed by Day News, Arab Times, and Arab News. The National was ranked eighth, while Qatar Tribune was ranked last.
As for the 63 most popular news websites, Egypt’s Al-Yawm Al-Sabee [The Seventh Day] was ranked the top most popular website in the region followed by Algeria’s Al-Shorouq, UAE’s Al-Imarat Al-Yawm [Emirates Today], Egypt’s Al-Ahram, and Jordan’s Al-Raii.
