Guidelines and the editorial line of the newly created radio station Shems FM were unveiled on Friday evening at a ceremony held in Tunis.
Shems FM, the fourth private radio station in Tunisia, is born in an environment that encourages initiative and openness onto the private sector to enhance pluralism that marks the national media setting under President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali's impetus.
The ceremony was attended by the Special Advisor to the President of the Republic in charge of Political Affairs, Mr. Abdelwaheb Abdallah and Communication Minister, Mr. Oussama Romdhani. Mrs. Syrine Mabrouk, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the company sponsoring the radio was also present.
The station's team, essentially young professionals, was introduced during this meeting.
In a statement to Tunis Afrique Presse Agency, promoter of the radio Mr. Fethi Bhouri expressed consideration to President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali for the confidence placed in Shems FM team to contribute to strengthening the audio-visual landscape in the country through programmes dedicated to youth as part of the International Year of Youth.
Shems FM is a general-interest radio that comes to enhance the Head of State's programme for the next stage to promote the audio-visual landscape and further open it to the private sector in order to better reflect the country's progress at all levels and the daily life of Tunisians.
Shems FM radio is to start broadcasting on September 27. At a first stage, it will cover Greater Tunis, the Cap Bon, Sfax and Bizerte areas.
