MUSCAT -- As part of Shell's Professional Training Programme Planned for 2008, Shell Development Oman LLC recently organised a two-day course on 'Negotiation Fundamentals.' The course, conducted in two sessions, was held at its office in Muscat, and more than 45 participants from various government, private sector and non-government organisations attended. This course provided participants with the practical framework to understand and develop their preferred negotiating style, as well as recognises both its strengths and weaknesses.

The workshop also encouraged participants to test alternative influencing styles. The course instructor, Rob Veersma, who is a Consultant at the Shell Learning Centre in the Netherlands, was specifically flown to run this course. Al Mutasim al Sariri, Social Investment Manager, Shell Development Oman said: "The importation of Shell courses to Oman represent part of our drive to share the knowledge that Shell has attained from more than 110 countries that it operates in, with Omanis. The training programme forms a part of our Social Investment Initiative, offering a much wider scope of our contribution to the Omani society.

We intend to continue with these initiatives as long as there is a demand." Participants in the course expressed their gratitude and appreciation for the opportunity offered by the Shell Development Oman. One of the participants, Sulaiman al Ghafri from Royal Oman Police, commented saying, "I believe that the programme was well organised. The delivery techniques of the instructor were very high, while the practical exercises included in the programme resulted in an extremely successful course."
