Saudi Aramco Tests Two Oil/Gas Discoveries Near Ghawar Field

Saudi Aramco has made two new oil discoveries near the giant Ghawar field, one of which is from a shallower reservoir at a well tested in February (MEES, 26 February). The Derwaza-1 well, 70km southeast of Ghawar, produced 5,569 b/d of Arabian Light 35° API oil and 2.8mn cfd of gas at 600 psi on a 1in choke from the Arab-D reservoir at 9,500ft depth. In February, the same well tested oil in the Unayzah reservoir at 15,310ft, which flowed 3,915 b/d with 11.9mn cfd at 4,466 psi pressure on a 32/64in choke. The second discovery, Mabrouk-1 was located 30km southeast of Ghawar and produced 5,600 b/d of 27.4° API heavy crude and 2mn cfd of gas.
