Tehran - Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, HRH Prince El-Hassan bin Talal headed Jordan's delegation to the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Tehran.

Prince El-Hassan stressed that Jordan has always been keen to actively participate in meetings of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), voicing hope that the summit's resolutions would contribute to increasing solidarity between the NAM and the international community to realize security and stability and address the growing risks.

The Prince noted that the world urgently needs to take into account principles adopted by the NAM to address obstacles and crises at the world level.

Jordan's policy is based on cooperation with the international community on the basis of mutual respect, non-interference in others' affairs and supporting programs and policies that promote world peace and development, the Prince said.

He also underlined the need to maximize coordination and work cooperatively and jointly with partners in the international community to face obstacles. The Prince noted that the participants discussed during the summit a number of issues on means to achieve development, security and stability, calling for wisdom and patience while dealing with challenges.

The NAM is able to play an effective role in facing effects of the world economic and financial crisis, especially on the developing countries, the Prince said, affirming the importance of reforming the international economic and financial system to widely serve the nations' needs.

He also stressed the need to give greater attention to youth, women and education issues to realize sustainable development. On Palestine, the Prince reiterated Jordan's support of the Palestinian people to establish their own independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital and solve all final-status issues in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab peace initiative.

On Syrian, the Prince affirmed the need to support efforts aiming at finding a political solution to the crisis to restore stability and stop the bloodshed in the neighboring country and achieve aspirations of the Syrians, warning against delay in dealing with the crisis.

On the sidelines of the summit, Prince El-Hassan met with heads of a number of delegations participating in the summit and discussed mechanisms of developing the NAM's role to face various challenges.
