BEIRUT: The prices of 20 liters of gasoline increased by LL100 and 20 liters of kerosene jumped by LL400.
However, the prices of gas cylinder fell by LL100. According to the energy and water minister, Gibran Bassil, the new prices are as follows:
20 liters of 98 octane gasoline: LL34,400
20 liters of 95 gasoline octane: LL33,700
20 liters of gasoil: LL21,100
20 liters of kerosene: LL21,600
20 liters of diesel oil: LL21,700
10 kg gas cylinder: LL14,900
12.5 kg gas cylinder: LL18,600.
Bassil attributed the rise in prices of gasoline to the surge in the prices of oil in international markets. Bassil repeated that the government collects more than LL12,500 from every 20 liters of gasoline. The government collects revenue of more than $800 million from gasoline and fuel oil each year. Trade unions are threatening an open strike in June if the prices of oil and other basic commodities are not reduced. – The Daily Star
