MUSCAT -- In a special reception yesterday OPAL was awarded ISO 9001-2008, ISO 14001-2004, and OHSAS 18001-2007 certification in recognition of its quality management and environmental and occupational health systems. The certificates were handed over to Nick Pattison, OPAL CEO by Faisal Malik, Certification Manager in Bureau Veritas the independent certification body.

Pattison said: "I am proud of securing this certification and I thank OPAL staff for their dedication and contribution to this achievement. The OPAL secretariat team is small and its operations are office-based, but we are in business, in part, to contribute to and assess standards in the Industry so we felt it was essential that our own business processes should be judged by external assessors. I am most grateful to Vanguard for guiding us through the process and to Bureau Veritas for ensuring that ISO standards in Oman meet international standards".

OPAL awards certificates to its members, CVC and HSE-MS are the most popular ones in the industry, there are about employment and health, safety and environmental standards and practices. OPAL's role is to ensure that companies which work in the sector meet certain standards with regards to good employment and health and safety practices.

Obtaining the three ISO certificates will be a guarantee of OPAL excellence in quality, HR and HSE systems and will reinforce its credentials as a leading standards and certification body for the oil and gas sector in the region.
