The site for an Omantel pilot project, mandated by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) to provide telecom services to a remote settlement, has been narrowed down to the southern Batinah region.

First discussed in 2007, the project will see Internet connectivity and other services introduced in an area with mountainous terrain and wadis which make service provision difficult.

Speaking after a press conference in which the company outlined its Ramdan corporate social responsibility plans, Omantel CEO Dr Amer al Rawas said the TRA has decided on an area for the project, but other details have still yet to be ironed out.
