MUSCAT -- With the close of registration for Oman Web Awards, the first event of its kind in the Sultanate, the number of registered websites crossed 150 from various categories, including companies, personal and students.
The contest, aiming to set new standards for the web industry in Oman and introducing website designers to latest developments, is organised by Darran LLC in co-operation with Omantel and Advanced Business Solutions Company (ABS).
ABSA general manager, Mohammed Mustafa, said the contest is expected to give a push to the web business in Oman, especially with the growing awareness of its importance for the business development in the country. "We believe Oman Web Awards will play a role in presenting the web business as the perfect solution for Oman," he said. It will help improve the quality of the web services provided in Oman, he added.
The registered websites will compete in 22 categories, covering various business sectors in Oman, including art and design, banks and financial institutions, corporate, cultural, directories and info services, e-commerce, education, international organisations, media and press, NGOs, personal, real estate, software and telecommunication. Specialised judges will evaluate the registered websites to decide the winners, who will be announced during a special ceremony at the end of this month.
The competition qualifies the winners of the first three spots in each category to the Pan Arab Web awards competition, scheduled for early next year in Amman. Bank Muscat is sponsoring the awards.
