Muscat - The Gujarati Wing of the Indian Social Club is organising a career development opportunity lecture by two Indian speakers on April 11 at the ISC Hall, Darsait. K.K. Patel, councellor and director; and Ashish Desai from the Nirma Institute of Technology in Gujarat will address the students on 'higher educational opportunities'. Chandrakant V. Chothani, convener of the Gujarati Wing, said the students would also get a chance to personally meet the distinguished speakers and interact with them.
Gujarati entrepreneur Dr K.K. Patel, founder of the Nirma Industries, established the Nirma Education and Research Foundation in 1994. Under this banner, four educational institutions were established. The Nirma Institute of Technology (NIT) was started in 1995 while in the following two years, the Nirma Institute of Management and the Nirma Institute of Diploma Studies were established while Institute of Pharmacy began in 2003.
The establishment of Nirma University as a statutory university in April 2003 was a natural consequence of the high standards achieved by the institutes. All the programmes offered at Nirma University are approved by the All-India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and University Grants Commis-sion in India.
Besides, Nirma University is recognised in more than 230 universities in the world, says the press release. The Nirma Institute of Technology has eight undergraduate programmes and seven postgraduate programmes with facilities for doctoral studies. The NIT has been rated as 'A' grade institution by Tata Consultancy Services. The Institute of Diploma Studies is the most preferred diploma-engineering institute in Gujarat having the approval of AICTE and a tie-up with Mohawk College of Canada for students exchange programme.
Unlike normal polytechnics, the institute runs a four-year diploma course with extensive industrial training programme of two semesters in the field. Three different MBA programmes are offered by the Institute of Management. There is the regular MBA, then the full-time in Family Business and Entrepreneurship and the third is a part-time MBA.
Doctoral programmes in marketing, finance, human resources, information technology and general management are also conducted here, besides an executive diploma programme. The undergraduate programme at the Institute of Pharmacy consists of various courses with options to specialise in industrial or professional (clinical) pharmacy in the third and fourth years. There is also a master's programme on offer. The Nirma Institute also started a postgraduate programmes in biotechnology and biochemistry from last year.
