MUSCAT — Oman Cables Industry (OCI) launched yesterday a new range of medium voltage cable for power utilities, industrial and commercial projects.
The medium voltage cable manufacturing facility with state-of-the-art machinery and equipment at OCI is the most modern facility available in the region today.
The entire MV cable manufacturing plant at OCI is fully air-conditioned with humidity control to ensure contamination-free atmosphere, the only one of its kind in the entire Middle East.
Hussain bin Salman, vice-chairman and managing director of OCI, said: “Unlike other products, 90 per cent of the medium voltage cables is used by local government utilities while 10 per cent is used by the private sector and individuals.
“The medium voltage cable has been approved by well-known international institutions, including KEMA in the Netherlands. Thus, OCI has established its significant presence and strength in all its areas of operations.”
With the manufacturing facilities incorporation, the use of the latest available technology, the medium voltage cables offered by OCI provide customers with a definite advantage in terms of complete adherence to specifications, superior overall performance, minimum risk of insulation failures and much longer service life.
“At OCI we look at the global market as it has a great market potential for us to expand in the region. We don’t want to restrict to a limited market. We export more than 50 per cent of our produce. OCI has taken up a Japanese contract in gas projects and an electricity network project in Turkey.
“This is in addition to its contracts with Germany, Italy, Turkey and France and other countries in the AGCC and the Middle East.
“We have expanded our market share by driving the market into more competitive at the international level, thereby increasing our international exports from 40 per cent to over 50 per cent,” said Hussain bin Salman.
OCI has always regarded quality as the number one priority as it was accredited with ISO 9002 certification in 1994 and was upgraded to the ISO 9001:2000 version in 2003. “Quality is all about commitment which also regards safety. The quality of product is always known through the usage and time,” Hussain added.
Established in 1984, OCI today has over 280 dedicated personnel and staff and has grown by turnover into one of the top 10 industrial companies in the Sultanate.
In 1997, the company attracted the attention of Draka Holding N.V. of the Netherlands and became an affiliated member of Draka Holding groups following around 35 per cent equity participation by Draka in the company.
“The key to OCI’s continued growth and success is its management’s focused thrust. OCI has now entered a phase where the globe has become its marketing turf. The best is yet to come. The future is bright and OCI products will be here, there and everywhere to meet the growing needs, within the AGCC or globally,” Hussain bin Salman added.
