Success and memory are like horse and carriage

MUSCAT -- A six-day workshop was organised recently by Al Amal Medical & Health Care Centre on "Creative Memory & Mind Management".  The workshop conducted by Zafer Mahmood, an expert memory trainer from Mysore (India), was aimed at advancing participants' understanding about the significance of sharp memory.

Dr Bashir M Muhammad, Managing Director of Al Amal Medical & Health Care Centre, said the detailed techniques of memory development, mind mapping, silent meditation and other activities for mind management explained at the workshop hold out considerable benefits for people of all age groups and professions. In a way, success and a sharp memory go together like a horse and carriage.

Dr Bashir said "memory is one of the most important faculties, which distinguishes human beings from other creatures. We recall past teachings and events which help us to live our daily life. But, a sharp memory is an added asset which one has to develop through practice and training in a continual manner". With a sharp memory, one can comprehend things more easily and quickly.

"His very easy and simple techniques were refreshing and made one think as to why this had not happened earlier", said Dr Bashir. One such exercise is that "we should all try to use and develop both the sides of our brain -- normally right-handed people have well developed left-sided brain but if we consciously use our left hand for daily activities, this stimulates and develops the right half of our brain".

One needs to spend at least five minutes daily to use the left hand for writing, 5 minutes for combing hair by left hand and brush teeth. This allows people to notice an improved brain activity and better memory.  Dr Bashir says such mental training exercises are a key to manage and improve the present day living, which is full of stress and tensions.
