Cairo: The Egyptian Ministry of Military Production has partnered with Manufacturing Commercial Vehicles (MCV) to produce the first locally manufactured electric buses, according to a statement on Monday.

The move is in line with the country's efforts to promote the use of clean energy and boost the local industry.

Egypt will increase the percentage of local components in the manufacturing of electric buses to above 60%, the Minister of State for Military Production, Mohamed Ahmed Morsy, said.

The eco-friendly vehicle will run 300-350 kilometres (km) on one charge at a maximum speed of 70 km per hour, the ministry's Media Advisor, Mohamed Eid Bakr, revealed.
